Halwatura

Halwatura Estate is situated in Ingiriya, bordering the Kalugaga River in the Bulathsinhala electorate. The Estate covers an area of 612 hectares (1510 acres). The terrain is primarily made up of small natural mountains and rocks. The primary crop on the Estate is rubber.

The history of the Estate can be traced back to 1896 when an Englishman named Saily selected the Halwatura area to plant tea. As the years went on he expanded the plantation to include rubber as well. Over time Halwatura Estate became the one the largest tea and rubber estates in the Kalutara district. Following a devastating fire that destroyed both the tea and rubber factories in January 1983, the Estate moved away from growing tea and concentrated exclusively on rubber.
